Fearless Test Taking

In today’s world, being tested is simply a part of life. Whether you are in High School, in College, in Graduate, Medical, or Law School, in the process of becoming a Licensed Professional after your degree is completed, or applying for a Promotion, you cannot avoid being tested.

  • Do you have trouble doing well on tests even though you have prepared well and know the material?
  • Do you feel excessively nervous when you take tests, including having trouble sleeping the night(s) before, racing thoughts, nausea, muscle tension, or hyperventilation?
  • Do you have difficulty handling the pressure of taking standardized tests, like the ACT or SAT, resulting in a poor performance and potentially costing you thousands of dollars in lost academic scholarships or admission to the college of your choice?
  • Are you re-taking college classes two or even three times because you have trouble turning your knowledge of the material into test success?
  • Are you missing out on jobs due to an inability to pass professional licensure or board exams?
  • Do you view upcoming tests with dread?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, UAB-Huntsville may be able to help.

Dr. Jim Moncier of UAB-Huntsville has developed the Fearless Test Taking program to help students and professionals succeed in meeting goals that require passing tests in situations such as those listed above.

Fearless Test Taking does not mean you will not be nervous before or during a test as research demonstrates that people perform better when they are a little nervous. Instead, Fearless Test Taking means taking control of your anxiety and managing it as you prepare for and take an exam.

Fearless Test Taking is not a tutorial service – there already are good tutorial services and workshops in the area that can help you master the content for the test(s) you are taking. Fearless Test Taking means learning to manage your anxiety so that, if properly prepared, you can take the test(s) with confidence and the results will more accurately reflect your knowledge of the subject (and less of how nervous you were when you took the test).
